Newport Winter Carnival - the oldest continuing winter carnival in the United States - includes skating, snow sculpting, carnival queen pageant, ski jumping and more. This year's theme is Rodeo and includes a new event: Ski Joring, skiing behind a horse at speeds up to 40 mph. Ski joring events are held at noon Saturday and 11am Sunday. Divisions include the highly competitive open division, and hot on their
hooves are the sport and women's divisions. The Junior Division is the
one to watch for future stars and Pee Wee Division is chock full of pint
sized speed demons. X-Joring is back for those snowboard extremists. The
Long Jump Competition always takes your breath away and speaking of
catching your breath... this year we're going to let the 40+ crowd show
us how it's done in the Master's Division. The horse wil be the only
competitor under 40 years of age allowed in this division! |
